A Win for Industrial Education in Puerto Rico

Congratulations to the University of Puerto Rico on completing its Industry 4.0 Instrumentation Lab Modules initiative — a program developing the next generation of automation and instrumentation professionals, and one TriNova is proud to be part of.

The initiative supports Associate and Bachelor's coursework at the university level and extends hands-on learning into K–12 classrooms — reaching 161 students so far, with more on the way. That's exactly the kind of program that builds a workforce ready for the realities of modern industry, not just the textbook version of it.

A Partnership That Bridges Education and Industry

This achievement was made possible by a partnership between the University of Puerto Rico, TriNova, Endress+Hauser, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) — each bringing something the others can't.

The University provides the curriculum, the faculty, and the institutional commitment. Endress+Hauser contributes the world-class instrumentation students learn on. The NSF backs the program with research and funding muscle. And TriNova brings the field knowledge and real-world application context that turns classroom theory into something students can actually do.

Together, that's a model worth replicating — and we're already starting to. Up next: bringing instrumentation training to future engineers at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.

A Special Thanks

Programs like this don't happen on momentum alone. They take leadership, dedication, and people willing to do the unglamorous work of building something new.

Special thanks to Ricardo Valdes, Lerfio Crespo, and Miguel Lorenzo for their leadership in advancing engineering education and workforce development across Puerto Rico. The students walking out of these labs with real instrumentation experience owe a lot to the three of you.

Why This Matters to TriNova

Workforce development isn't a side project for us — it's part of how we think about the future of the industry.

Across our practice, TriNova invests in Instructor-Led Education, Online Learning, and our Apprenticeship Program for the same reason we support initiatives like the one in Puerto Rico: the next generation of engineers, technicians, and automation professionals are the ones who will keep our customers' plants running. The earlier we can put quality instruments in their hands, the better off the whole industry is.
